ASMC Member Providing Hands-On Help through the Mid-America Manufacturing Technology Center
Client Profile
Acme Foundry Inc., located in Coffeyville, Kansas, is a gray iron foundry producing 25,000 tons of castings per year used in the fluid power industry, petro-chemical industry, in transmission machinery, and in other industries. The foundry was established in 1905 and currently employs 325 people.
Situation
To remain competitive in its current markets and to allow new markets to be opened, Acme Foundry decided to implement the procedures and requirements of ISO 9001:2000 quality system. Acme Foundry Inc. contacted the Mid-America Manufacturing Technology Center (MAMTC), a NIST MEP affiliate, for help.
Solution
MAMTC worked with Acme Foundry step by step through the rigorous process of assessing its operations, identifying problem areas, and then devising a plan to improve overall quality and efficiency. MAMTC worked closely with company staff to implement each phase and provide customized training to all employees. With help from MAMTC, Acme Foundry developed quality manuals and procedures for continuous improvement.
