ASMC Member Providing Hands-On Help through the Mid-America Manufacturing Technology Center
Client Profile
Broce Manufacturing Co. Inc., located in Dodge City, Kansas, is the world’s largest manufacturer of self-propelled sweepers. Established in 1961, Broce controls a large percentage of the construction broom market. The company currently employs 47 people.
Situation
Broce needed some assistance with CAD drafting. The company had no one on staff trained in CAD. In addition, Broce wanted to develop a parts manual including text and digital photos to streamline its processes and maintain consistency and quality. Broce Manufacturing Co. contacted the Mid-America Manufacturing Technology Center (MAMTC), a NIST MEP affiliate, for help.
Solution
MAMTC worked onsite updating CAD drawings for product parts and assembly. The CAD drawings can now be updated and or modified more quickly than paper drawings, accelerating fabrication and maintaining consistency. MAMTC documented production processes to accurately outline Broce procedures for each part and assembly. Digital photos visually reinforced the proper instructions for each work station. Part and assembly manuals help ensure that production is consistent, an important part of Broce’s commitment to quality and continuous improvement. As a result of MAMTC’s work, Broce anticipates a sales increase of $25,000 and the retention of $50,000 of sales.
Results
- Anticipated sales increase of $25,000.
- Retention of $50,000 in sales.
- Improved consistency in production.
