Supporting MEP
MEP is a public-private partnership, designed from inception as a cost-share program. Federal appropriations pay one-half, with the balance for each Center funded by state / local governments and/or private entities, plus client fees. ASMC proactively advocates for legislation to ensure the MEP National Network can remain focused on their mission in helping advance U.S. manufacturing.

House Appropriations

Throughout the Appropriations process, the House Appropriations Committee staff will engage with their respective members to assist in developing their budgets. The best way to ensure increased funding for the MEP program is to have Representatives support the MEP Program through member requests and by signing a Dear Colleague Letter (DCL).

A “Dear Colleague” letter is an official piece of communication written by members of Congress and is used to encourage their colleagues to support, cosponsor, or to oppose a bill or issue. The goal is to get as many signatures in support of the letter as possible, so when it is time to pass the federal funding bills, members of Congress can see how much of a priority it should be.

Annually, a sponsor in the House author and circulate a DCL in support of NIST MEP. The current letter and signatures are below:
